Although generally considered part of complementary and alternative medicine, studies of the benefits of massage demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension, and may also be helpful for: anxiety; digestive disorders; fibromyalgia; headaches; insomnia related to stress; myofascial pain syndrome; soft tissue strains or injuries; sports injuries; temporomandibular joint pain.
At CrossFit PAF we want these benefits of massage therapy to be readily available to all of our members, which is why we have partnered with BodySpeak, LLC to offer in-house therapeutic massage at CrossFit PAF. We have allocated a portion of our facility and offices to Licensed Massage Therapist Linda Gilbert, owner of BodySpeak, LLC.

Cupping therapy has been used by health practitioners for thousands of years, and is another way to relieve tightness and pain in the body. It uses suction to encourage blood flow, which brings fresh blood, lymphatic fluid, oxygen, and nutrients into the area, which can accelerate healing and alleviate pain.
Until the invention of modern materials these cups have traditionally been made of glass, and to create the suction needed for therapeutic effects, practitioners would light small fires inside the cups, then quickly place them on the body. The cooling of the air inside the cups results in the therapeutic suction.
Practitioners now have the option to use flexible silicone cups – versus rigid, fragile glass cups – which are virtually unbreakable, portable and pliable. Most importantly, practitioners can now easily control the degree of suction by simply squeezing the cups more firmly or gently, depending on the needs and/or preferences of the client.
Soma Cupping is a specific technique and another available option to assist in diminishing pain or discomfort that may be the result of trigger points (hypertonic/tight muscle fibers). For additional information – or to see if this type of therapy would be beneficial to you – please contact Linda directly or ask her about it at your next therapeutic massage session.
